BRIEF: Moore sentenced in child sexual assault
Oct 31, 2009 (Lubbock Avalanche-Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A Lubbock County jury on Friday sentenced a Lubbock man to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter in 2007.
The same jury Friday morning convicted Adam Moore of aggravated sexual assault of a child after several hours of deliberation spanning two days.
The girl told her mother Moore had assaulted her when the girl was 4 and 5 years old. She is now 8.
The mother alerted health care professionals and then law enforcement.
After deliberating Moore's guilt or innocence most of the day Thursday, jurors continued deliberating Friday after an evening recess.
The jury contemplated Moore's punishment for several more hours Friday afternoon before returning the 20-year sentence.
He faced up to life in prison.
"We know the jury worked very hard to come to a verdict, and we're happy the victim and her family can hopefully start taking steps to put this behind them," said Josh Reno, an assistant criminal district attorney.
David Crook, Moore's attorney, declined comment.
