BRIEF: Modesto, Calif., flower clock gets a bicycle-themed facelift
Nov 21, 2008 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Members of the Modesto Garden Club are sprucing up the flower clock outside the convention center today, making it look like a bicycle wheel in honor of the Amgen Tour of California cycling race.
A small group of gardeners is reworking the clock, lining up golden yellow violas to look like spokes connecting the hub and rim of bicycle wheel.
Cheryl Carmichael, the vice president of civic affairs for the club, says the flowers will thrive for several months, well past Feb. 17. That's when Stage 4 of the 2009 Amgen race will finish in Modesto.
"It'll just get better and better," she said. "I think it's going to look fabulous."
