BRIEF: Mitchell planning panel to review proposed new zoning codes [The Daily Republic, Mitchell, S.D.]

(Daily Republic (Mitchell, SD) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 13--The Mitchell Planning and Zoning Commission will get its first look at a draft of the proposed new zoning code in the city.

City Attorney Randy Stiles and City Planner Neil Putnam have been working on the new codes for several months. They have reviewed city law, the decisions of the planners and the City Council, policies of other cities, and evolving uses and practices in the city and region in drafting the proposal.

The commissioners will also discuss setting a date for a public hearing on the new zoning codes.

The commission will also review a variance request, as well as a request for a conditional use permit, during its meeting today.

Bob Plastow is seeking a conditional use permit to operate a home occupation computer business at 808 E. Third Ave.

Larry and Kathy Gebel want a variance to construct a car port at 1118 S. Kimball St.

The request is being made because the square footage and front yard setback will not be met.

The commission meets at noon at City Hall Council Chambers, 612 N. Main St. The meeting is open to the public.
