BRIEF: Memphis Zoo has an app for its apes ... and other attractions
Mar 05, 2010 (The Commercial Appeal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Joining a growing list of local entities in this new technological age, now the Memphis Zoo has an app of its own. It is one of only four zoos in the country to offer visitors an iPhone application.
The Zoo's mobile Web site (memphiszoo.mobi) and app both feature a detailed schedule of events, including keeper chats, animal feedings and shows. Visitors may also use their cell phones for information on exhibits, gift shops, and concession stands, while the homepage features up-to-date news from the Zoo's Twitter feed.
In addition, iPhone users will be able take advantage of a GPS-enabled map that pinpoints a visitor's position as they progress through the Zoo and a "Friend Finder" feature to locate app users in their party. The free app is downloadable through iTunes.
"The mobile Web site and the iPhone app allows our visitors to access the Zoo information they want at the touch of their fingertips," said Stacy Hayes, membership and admissions manager. "Having this easily accessible information will enhance the Zoo visit."
