BRIEF: Meeting on Green River options draws nearly 40
Oct 30, 2009 (The Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Nearly 40 people attended a meeting Thursday evening to discuss options for crossing Green River in Mammoth Cave National Park.
Park Superintendent Pat Reed told the group he is still gathering information on three possible alternatives to improve the crossing, including bridge options at Green River Ferry, but also wants information about how travel could be improved in the interim.
"Even if we are able to do one of the bridge alternatives, it would still be several years away before any construction could begin," park spokeswoman Vickie Carson said.
Carson said attendees were asked to fill out a questionnaire and offer what they thought would be optimum operation hours of both the Green River and Houchins ferries.
"Most people want to be able to cross the river any time of the day or night," Carson said.
The park will accept comments to be used in an environmental assessment until Nov. 13. The forms are available at the superintendent's office and the park's visitors center.
