BRIEF: Marketing Firm Turns Homes into Huge Billboards [KTLA-TV, Los Angeles]

(KTLA-TV (Los Angeles) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 14--BUENA PARK, Calif. -- A advertising new plan hatched by a marketing company has residents in an Orange county neighborhood seeing green...and orange.

Some companies advertise the old-fashioned way -- TV, print or radio. Orange County marketing firm Brainiacs From Mars is trying to get in on the ground floor of an as-yet untapped ad market: houses. The company decided to take homes and transform them into gigantic billboards.


The first home/billboard belongs to a couple in Buena Park. Brainiacs From Mars painted the home bright green and orange to promote their company.

CEO Romeo Mendoza came up with the idea and there's a big reason why 38,000 people begged for the chance to let him turn their home into a billboard -- participating homeowners get their mortgages paid for.


"If you let us come in there and put this on your house, we'll pay your mortgage for the entire time it's up," Mendoza said.

Beth and Scott Hostetler were the first homeowners chosen to participate in the marketing scheme. Both are deaf, work for Goodwill and will have their $2,000 mortgage taken care of as long as they leave the bright paint job up.

"Our goal is to pay down the credit card bills," Scott said, through a translator.
