BRIEF: Man faces charges in UPMC threats

Apr 13, 2012 (The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A man upset about a medication change telephoned UPMC and warned he would become violent, court records show.

Pittsburgh police said Louis Lombardi, 48, of McKees Rocks made reference to last month's shooting at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic during Tuesday's phone call. Police charged Lombardi with harassment, terroristic threats and stalking.

Lombardi complained that UPMC changed his prescription medication from a brand name to a generic that made him sick, police said in a criminal complaint filed against him.

"He said that 'UPMC can only push people so far before they go crazy -- what are they trying to do, create another Western Psych incident?' " a UPMC employee told police.


John F. Shick, 30, of Oakland fatally shot a therapist and wounded five at Western Psych on March 8. University of Pittsburgh police killed Shick in a shootout.

Lombardi told the worker, "I am already becoming violent, and I may hurt someone," police said.

Lombardi called UPMC on Feb. 22 and screamed profanities while demanding the address of UPMC and its pharmacy department, police said. He was jailed and has a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
