BRIEF: Former Cambria coach to serve probation for indecency

Jun 26, 2009 (Tribune-Review - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A former basketball coach from Cambria County has been sentenced to 10 years of intensive probation for indecent assault charges and other offenses related to her interaction with a female player from Westmoreland County.

Melissa L. McMullen, 43, of Johnstown pleaded guilty this week to charges of indecent assault, interfering with the custody of children, furnishing alcohol for minors and corruption of minors in two cases investigated last year by Ligonier Township police.

According to the criminal complaint, the player's parents told police that McMullen maintained contact with their daughter outside of their association on a basketball team. Neither the team nor McMullen's exact coaching position are identified in court papers.
