BRIEF: El Al lowers fares for Israelis returning home: Returning emigres can also bring on an extra piece of luggage.
(Globes Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jun. 10--El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) will give special benefits to returning Israelis as part of the airline's marking of Israel's 60th anniversary. Under and agreement between the airline and the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, El Al will offer uniform fares with a 15 percent discount to returning residents, will grant them preferential seats. The airline will offer 100 seats a month under the program.
El Al will also allow all returning Israelis from the US over the age of two to bring on an extra piece of luggage: three 23-kilogram suitcases instead of two. Returning Israelis from any other country will be allowed to carry on an extra 35 kilograms of luggage.
The program is part of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption's plan to encourage Israelis to return. The plan, launched as part of the country's 60th anniversary, includes a range of benefits. Ministry of Immigrant Absorption director general Erez Halfon said that 3,000 persons have already returned this year under the program, out of 8,000 persons who registered for it. He said that the ministry expects more than 12,000 Israelis to return under the program, and that 90 percent of them will fly El Al.
