BRIEF: Detective arrests second suspect in burglary
Jun 28, 2009 (The McDowell News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Authorities have arrested the second of two suspects who reportedly broke into a house earlier this month and swiped two video game systems while the resident slept.
Detective Nathan Mace of the McDowell County Sheriff's Office charged Christopher Scott Ray, 20, of Shady Hollow Lane in Nebo with one felony count each of first-degree burglary and larceny. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
He previously charged Samantha Danielle Norton, 16, of Morganton with first-degree burglary.
Mace said the two broke into the residence of Crystal Loftis of Shady Hollow Lane around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15.
Loftis told the investigator that she was in bed and was awakened by a noise. She thought it was her husband, so she got up. She heard voices and realized it wasn't him.
She went outside and saw a man running across her yard and Norton standing in the driveway, according to Mace.
Norton was apprehended at the scene, but it was some time later before Ray was captured.
Mace said the suspects went into Loftis' house and began stuffing items into a pillowcase.
They took two video game systems and one game with a total value of $145.
