Mar 03, 2010 (The Kansas City Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A member of the family that once headed organized crime in Kansas City pleaded guilty this morning to running an illegal gambling enterprise.
Vincent F. Civella, 53, of Kansas City also agreed to forfeit $40,000 in gambling proceeds to the federal government.
He is the sixth person to plead guilty in U.S. District Court to participating in the sports bookmaking operation that utilized the Internet and a company in Costa Rica to manage wagers.
Civella, whose grandfather and father were organized crime leaders in Kansas City, faces up to five years in prison. He will be sentenced after a pre-sentence investigation is completed.
