BRIEF: City of Bangor's phone system back after going offline Monday morning during server switch

Feb 11, 2013 (Bangor Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- BANGOR, Maine -- City offices briefly lost phone service Monday morning when the information technology department powered up new servers in preparation for a phone system upgrade scheduled for next week.

People calling city departments Monday morning were greeted with busy signals from about 10:20 to 11 a.m. Emails weren't affected by the service outage.

The city's current system is about 10 years old, and has maxed out on the number of users the city can put on the system, according to Jeff Courtney, administrator for the city's Information Services Division.

The upgrade will open up more user capacity for the city, which will be needed with the Cross Insurance Center poised to open in the fall, Courtney said.
