BRIEF: City approves new cell phone tower

Dec 30, 2008 (Yakima Herald-Republic - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The city of Yakima has approved a plan submitted by US Cellular to erect a 100-foot tower at the Chinook Business Park in northeast Yakima.

A review of the application determined the cell phone tower will have no significant adverse environmental impact, and the company will not be required to submit an environmental impact statement for the project, according to a news release the city's planning division issued Tuesday. The city did require standard mitigation measures for the project, mostly dealing with adherence to city codes.

US Cellular plans to build its tower at the corner of North Fifth and East S streets, which is in a district zoned M-1 for light industrial uses.
