BRIEF: Cameras link trio to break-ins
ATHENS, Nov 13, 2008 (The Decatur Daily - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Two teenage cousins and an Athens man allegedly spent Wednesday morning breaking into local stores, a Limestone County investigator said.
They got caught because one store had video surveillance, Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said.
Authorities charged Johnny Matthew Stewart, 27, of 13371 Buddy Drive, a 17-year-old Athens male and a 16-year-old Harvest male each with two counts of third-degree burglary.
Alleged break-ins
McNatt said the trio pushed out an air conditioning unit and climbed through the opening to enter USA Grocery on Zehner Road. Video cameras caught two of them taking two handguns, a box of change and cigarettes, worth a total of $758, he said.
The trio also broke into Pitts Auto Parts on Blackburn Road, McNatt said, where they took two computers, $25 in change, a TV and seven walkie-talkies.
Investigators Eric King, Randy Burroughs and Jay Looney located the three at the homes of family and friends and recovered some of the items. The computers were damaged.
Stewart was in jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. The teens were released into their parents' custody.
