BRIEF: Boulder-based Special Transit now named Via
Feb 13, 2012 (Daily Camera - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Boulder-based Special Transit is changing its name to Via.
The name change comes after 32 years of the service providing special transportation to people who can't drive due to age, health, disability or income.
Mary Kobb, director of communications for Via, said the nonprofit organization has outgrown its old name.
"We have so many other programs and services that we offer to the community," she said. "The name didn't work to embrace all that we are capable of doing and all that we provide to the community."
She said the organization also wanted to move away from using the word "special," which can have a negative connotation for people with disabilities or the elderly.
And, moving away from the word "transit" helps distinguish the organization from the Regional Transportation District.
Via, Kobb said, "embraces everything that we have to offer."
