BRIEF: Accused Olivehurst Mini-Mart robber held in Sacramento jail
Apr 13, 2012 (Appeal-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A man the Yuba County Sheriff's Department believes was responsible for the April 4 robbery of the Olivehurst Mini-Mart is being held at Sacramento County Jail, according to a department press release.
John Xiong, 29, of Linda, was arrested by law enforcement officers in Sacramento after he was believed to have committed a similar crime there. In the April 4 incident, according to the department, a man entered the convenience store in the evening and fired a handgun, injuring no one, before leaving the store with cash.
Investigators determined the man's identity in the Olivehurst case by video surveillance and other evidence, according to the press release. The gun used in the Olivehurst robbery has also been recovered.
The department has issued an arrest warrant for Xiong, with the expectation he'll be formally charged at a later date. Yuba County investigators are working with other law enforcement agencies to find other, similar cases, as well as identify possible accomplices.
