BRIEF: 48 Hours featuring Koula case airs Feb. 9

Feb 01, 2013 (La Crosse Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- CBS will feature the Eric Koula double homicide case during the Feb. 9 edition of "48 Hours," a network spokesman said Friday.

The hour-long show called "Desperate Measures" airs at 8 p.m. and features an exclusive sit down with Koula, plus interviews with attorneys, prosecutors, investigators, jurors and witnesses.

It also includes footage from Koula's 3 1/2 -week La Crosse County trial for the murders of his parents.

The network describes the show as: "The story of a family with secrets. Even in what looks like the best of families the seeds of dysfunction and ultimate betrayal are haunting." Koula is serving two consecutive life sentences for the 2010 shooting deaths of his parents, Dennis and Merna.

After 20 hours of deliberations, a La Crosse County jury in June found that Koula, 42, had killed his parents inside their town of Barre house on May 21 and deposited a forged $50,000 check from their investment account the next day.

Prosecutors argued deep debt and a floundering day trading career drove the West Salem man to kill to claim a substantial inheritance.

Koula maintains his innocence. The defense argued his parents were the unintended victims of a professional killer. His attorneys plan to appeal.
