Boxing: Inada to fight Sirimongkol for WBC interim title+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, March 29_(Kyodo) _ Japan's Chikashi Inada will face Sirimongkol Singwangcha of Thailand for the WBC lightweight interim crown on May 20 in Los Angeles, Japanese boxing officials said Wednesday.

The third-ranked Inada, who holds a record of 19-2 with 14 knockouts, will meet Sirimongkol, ranked No. 2 in the world, officials of the Teiken Promotion gym said.

Inada claimed the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation title last March and successfully defended it twice before relinquishing the belt for a shot at the WBC interim crown.

Sirimongkol, known as a hard puncher, has won the WBC bantamweight and super featherweight titles and boasts a record of 53-2 (32 KOs).

American WBC lightweight champion Diego Corrales had been scheduled to defend the title against mandatory contender Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico but an interim title bout was determined instead since Corrales has failed to fully recover from injury.
