Bolton & Company Raises the Stakes for Shared Belief in the Breeders' Cup Classic with the $1,000,000 Bolton Challenge

PASADENA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Bolton & Company, one of the nation's largest employee-owned insurance brokers, announced the Bolton Challenge in March, a $1,000,000 cash bonus for any horse who could win the Los Alamitos Derby, the Pacific Classic and the Breeders' Cup Classic. With the Breeders' Cup only days away, it looks like Shared Belief is well poised for a clean sweep.

Bolton & Company established a world-class equine practice group with the hiring of John Unick, an industry veteran, earlier this year. The Bolton Challenge was created to support Los Alamitos, a major client, and California racing in general.

"Brad McKinzie, the GM of Los Alamitos Race Course, and I came up with the idea of a large bonus for sweeping California's two major races leading up to The Breeders' Cup Classic. We wanted to show our support for Dr. Allred, Michael Lyon and his team at Los Alamitos as they really stepped up to fill the void that Hollywood Park left when they closed operations," said John Unick, Executive Vice President, Managing Director of Equine and Special Risk at Bolton & Company. "Obviously, a horse of Shared Belef's quality helps bring the Los Alamitos Derby closer to Grade 1 status, and helps cement its position as a prominent three-year-old stakes race."

The Challenge has exceeded initial expectations, and has given a significant lift to California horse racing this season. "Bolton could not have asked for a better scenario than to have Shared Belief as the lead contender for the Breeders' Cup Classic," said Steve Brockmeyer, President and CEO of Bolton & Company. "I am happy to be able to support John and his ongoing commitment to the industry."

"Clearly, The Bolton Challenge kept Shared Belief in California to race in the Pacific Classic instead of shipping to New York to run in the Travers at Saratoga," said John Unick. "As we are all painfully aware, California does not have alternate gaming revenue sources, so it is increasingly important to create incentives/sponsorships like the Bolton Challenge to keep our Superstars racing in California."

Bolton & Company, along with horse racing fans everywhere, will be on the edge of their seats, waiting to see if history will be made on November 1st.
