Boca Raton man arrested on child pornography charges

Jun 27, 2009 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- PALM BEACH COUNTY -- Law enforcement officials today announced the arrest of a Boca Raton man they're labeling a "super predator." Ramon P. Moreno, 19, is charged with six counts of possession of material depicting sexual performance of a child.

Each count is a third-degree felony that could result in up to five years of prison time, according to Michael Edmondson, spokesman for State Attorney Michael McAuliffe.

A Palm Beach County judge ordered $45,000 bond for Moreno, in-house arrest, no contact with any children and no access to computers or the Internet.

Moreno, of the 1900 block of Northwest 4th Ave., attempted to erase all signs of child pornography from his home computer, officials said. But detectives using data mining tools were able to locate titles and document evidence to bring the criminal charges, according to a news release.

The arrest is the result of collaboration by the state attorney's Special Victims Unit, Boca Raton and Boynton Beach police departments.

Detectives were working undercover in a search for "super predators" -- people who are distributing and possessing child pornography in Palm Beach County.

Using an Internet Crimes Against Children database, detectives located an Internet Protocol address that was used numerous times during the last several months in sharing child pornography. Detectives used a search warrant to enter Moreno's home and seize his computer.
