BLOG: Sound Check: Rap star Drake to headline Virginia Beach's amphitheater in May

Hip-hop fans will remember that Drake was set to play Hampton Coliseum back in November. That show was canceled due to what was described as a scheduling conflict.
The show has been rescheduled, but not at Hampton Coliseum. Promoters announced today that Drake -- along with J. Cole, Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz and French Montana -- will perform May 23 at the Farm Bureau Live amphitheater in Virginia Beach.
Drake's hits include "The Motto," "Take Care" and "Make Me Proud."
Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, March 30 from Ticketmaster and LiveNation.com. They'll be priced at $38.75 to $144.25.

LOS ANGELES, CA, MARCH 21, 2012 -- Multi-Platinum selling, Grammy nominated recording artist Drake today announced a 27-city U.S. amphitheater run of The Club Paradise Tour in support of his critically acclaimed album TAKE CARE. J. Cole, Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz and French Montana will support. The Club Paradise Tour comes on the heels of Drake's hugely successful sold out US college and European arena tours which saw the artist play US college arenas from Miami to San Jose and European venues including London's O2 Arena and the Oslo Spektrum. The Los Angeles Times review of Drake's performance at USC's Galen Center praised Drake's "masterful flow and wildly imaginative wordplay," and The OC Register raved that the LA show was a "near knockout performance" and "only a sampling of the heights Drake seems capable of scaling."
TAKE CARE (Young Money / Cash Money / Universal Republic), Drake's sophomore album was released November 15, 2011 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart with 631,000 copies sold. Acclaimed by fans and critics alike, the album has been praised as one of the best releases of the year, with The New York Times dubbing Drake "hip-hop's current center of gravity." The album has since been certified Platinum, having sold over 1.5 million copies in the US.
TAKE CARE follows Drake's full length album debut, 2010's THANK ME LATER, which also bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart week of release and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.
