The 2014 Frankfurt event projects the number of one-to-one partnering meetings to surpass the 2013 all-time record of 17,874 meetings.

The primary draw, and the reason why BIO-Europe is known as a "must-attend" event within the industry, are the one-to-one partnering meetings with high-level executives from across the life science value chain, including pharma and large biotech companies, investors and financiers, and innovative start-ups. These targeted business development meetings enable companies to identify business and licensing opportunities that are essential to their success.

At BIO-Europe, delegates can conduct more meetings at one conference than during the rest of the year. The resulting partnerships bring ground-breaking drugs, therapies and devices to patients around the world.

"The value of partnering is built upon the quality of the companies engaged in the process," said Roel Bulthuis, VP and Managing Director, MS Ventures. "Our strategy is to fund and support companies that we believe will be future winners in fields relevant to our parent, Merck Serono. We put a lot of energy into finding the right companies or viable opportunities to develop new businesses. There is a huge strategic benefit in being able to meet with a critical mass of investors, early stage biotech, academic researchers, and pre-seed companies at BIO-Europe."

"The focus of our R&D is on delivering innovative drug candidates to meet the needs of the patients," said Andreas Busch, Member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee and Head of Global Drug Discovery, Bayer HealthCare. "In that context, complementing our own capabilities with innovative partners from academia and biotech companies plays an important role. We value BIO-Europe because we can meet face-to-face with a large number of companies, which really maximizes our partnering efforts."

"It's remarkable how often I hear that a successful partnering deal started with a meeting at BIO-Europe," said Ben Bonifant, Partner, Triangle Insights Group, LLC.

"The lifeblood of the drug development industry is the ability to uncover new licensing opportunities in the form of new partners," said Dave Tapolczay, CEO, MRC Technology. "BIO-Europe is about partnering, about uncovering those opportunities."

At BIO-Europe, one-to-one partnering meetings are facilitated by EBD Group's highly reputable partneringONE® platform.

Over 3,200 delegates from 1,841 companies representing 56 countries attended BIO-Europe 2013. There were 184 company presentations with close to 3,600 licensing opportunities on offer, and 95 exhibitors at the event.
