Bank robbery suspect pleads guilty: John E. Turner Jr. is already serving a 34-year prison sentence.

Oct 25, 2008 (Kokomo Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Convicted bank robber John E. Turner Jr. pleaded guilty this week to robbing Harris Bank on North Washington Street last October.

Turner, 40, who is currently serving a 34-year prison sentence out of Marion County for bank robbery, walked into Howard Circuit Court Wednesday, pleaded guilty without a plea bargain to a Class C felony robbery and was sentenced to serve four years which will run consecutively with his existing prison term.

Turner was transported from the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City to Circuit Court for the hearing.

A grand jury in Howard Superior Court 4 indicted Turner on the Oct. 19, 2007, robbery in Kokomo.
The grand jury was sought after witnesses in the case refused to testify, Kokomo police said.
Police say Turner walked into Harris Bank about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 19, asking questions. He then grabbed a female employee and stuck what she believed to be a gun in her side and ordered her to tell other employees to fill a bag with money.

The employees complied and handed over the bag of money. Turner then fled south from the bank on foot.

No one was injured in the robbery.
A few days after the Kokomo robbery, police say Turner robbed an Indianapolis bank. He was arrested, convicted and sentenced June 13 in Marion County to 34 years and 11 months.

Turner also has a history of bank robberies. In 1992, he served five years in prison for robbery in Marion County and 11 months for a handgun violation. In 1988, he was convicted and sentenced in Marion County for robbery and in Howard County for robbery.
