Bank in Ardmore held up: Police seek gunman in black
Nov 07, 2009 (The Decatur Daily - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Authorities launched a manhunt for a robber who threatened employees at an Ardmore, Tenn., bank with a gun Friday afternoon and then fled with cash.
The suspect, clad in all black clothes, walked into CB&S Bank at 26314 Main St. at 1:40 p.m. and passed a note demanding money to the teller, said David Whitt, who becomes chief of the Ardmore Police Department next month. The robber was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, Whitt said.
"He was last seen running south from the bank around Jones Street," he said.
While authorities searched for the robber, Limestone County school administrators put nearby Cedar Hill Elementary and Ardmore High School on lockdown. Authorities called in search dogs from the Limestone Correctional Facility and a Limestone County Sheriff's Department helicopter to help in the pursuit, Whitt said.
Police describe the robber as a black male who
appeared to be in his 30s, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 160 to 170 pounds. He wore a black jacket, black pants, sunglasses and a black cap, Whitt said. No one was hurt during the hold-up.
The Giles County Sheriff's, Limestone County Sheriff's and Elkton Police departments are assisting Ardmore police in their investigation, he said. Because the incident was a bank robbery, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified. Anyone with information about the suspect can contact Ardmore police at 423-2146.
