Bahrain Bay to Become a Digitally Connected Community with Alloptic Infrastructure

LIVERMORE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Alloptic, Inc., a global leader in the design and development of Passive Optical Networks (PONs), announced that Bahrain Bay, the $2.5 billion landmark waterfront community located in the heart of Manama, announced its plans today to become the region's most connected urban community.

As part of its vision to establishing and maintaining a new standard of urban centre, Bahrain Bay is implementing a detailed design for amenities in its public spaces, which will include high-speed broadband connectivity, integration with cultural centers, a curated public arts program, a community events calendar and a rigorous maintenance regime for the whole community.

Enabling Bahrain Bay's digital connectivity will be Alloptic's GEPON (Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks) next generation access network solution. Alloptic is a US based global leader in the design and development of optical access networks and its solution will provide Bahrain Bay's complete communications, entertainment, security, and building management systems infrastructure.

Residents and visitors will benefit from constant access to wireless broadband connectivity within Bahrain Bay, enabling use of the increasing range of business and consumer devices which offer services and communication tools through wireless Internet access. Bahrain Bay's digital connectivity will also allow residents and visitors to access up to the minute information about cultural events within Bahrain Bay as well as being able to interact with their immediate environment, such as controlling the type of background music to be played in a specific public area. The digital access network will also provide the platform for a next generation approach to Bahrain Bay's building management needs, with many facilities services being controlled and automated through the network.

Bob Vincent, CEO of Bahrain Bay said, "Bahrain Bay is committed to helping develop a commercially sound and ecologically viable approach to development. Our goal is to ensure that Bahrain Bay is a self-governing and self sustaining community, supporting an exceptional quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. In developing the Bahrain Bay community, we recognized early on the importance that digital connectivity plays in both residential life and creating enhanced productivity for businesses. Identifying, locating and deploying the right communications infrastructure has been an integral part of our development process. We believe that the Alloptic solution provides us with the world class infrastructure Bahrain Bay demands."

"It's exciting for Alloptic to be partnering with Bahrain Bay to help them deliver their vision of a waterfront community designed to support the way residents will live their lives in an increasingly connected world," said Ric Johnsen, President and CEO of Alloptic. "Our optical access network will be responsible for delivering instant access to a wide range of community services, enabling broadband Internet access and ensuring a high quality of building services."

Alongside Raffles City, Bahrain Bay will also host the new HQ building for Arcapita, the leading international investment firm and lead investor in the project, as well as the Kingdom's only Four Seasons Hotel.

About Bahrain Bay Development B.S.C.(c) (www.bahrainbay.com)

Bahrain Bay is a new metropolis coming to life. A vibrant destination in the heart of Manama, Bahrain, this distinct community is a fusion between the calm of water and the vitality of an urban centre, the essence of Bahraini tradition. Positioned off the north-eastern shore of Manama, Bahrain Bay is a landmark $2.5 billion waterfront development designed around vibrant neighborhoods of residential, commercial and retail spaces, all based upon the unique concept of an island connected by two bridges forming an inner harbor. Contemporary in design and modern in its sensibility, Bahrain Bay brings a new energy to Bahrain, uniquely combining its diverse components and contrasting elements into an authentic and welcoming destination.

The community is anchored by three key developments: the Kingdom's only Four Seasons Hotel; CapitaLand's first GCC development, Raffles City Bahrain; and the new HQ building for Arcapita, the leading international investment firm and lead investor in the project. Final completion for the entire project is expected in the next 5 - 7 years.

Bahrain Bay is committed to establishing and maintaining a new standard of urban centre. With an emphasis on social fabric and sense of place, Bahrain Bay will be created as a complete community filled with residents, businesses and visitors from all over the world. Bahrain Bay offers a range of high quality development opportunities for developers to participate in creating residential, commercial and retail offerings around the anchor developments. In addition to the anchor developments, Bahrain Bay has attracted a $150 million investment from an Indian based JV between the Ajmera Group and Mayfair Housing to acquire land and develop one of the tallest residential buildings within the project, and a number of other sites are under offer.

Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, a world leading architecture and urban design firm based in New York, the master plan for Bahrain Bay has been designed to create a fusion of neighborhoods, open spaces, entertainment, retail and commercial areas which, together as Bahrain Bay, will serve as symbol of Bahrain's promising future.
