Those who have chosen to stay or have not yet relocated face a new heartache. A tornado ripped through a 20-block swath of Picher late Saturday afternoon, killing at least seven people. The same storm system then moved into southwest Missouri where tornadoes took the lives of at least 12 others, authorities said.
Obama outlines plans for race against McCainBEND, Ore. (AP) _ Barack Obama began sketching the outlines of his expected presidential contest against Republican John McCain on Saturday, saying the fall election will be more about specific plans and priorities than about questions of political ideology or who is more patriotic. Barely mentioning Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, Obama said he was open to campaigning with McCain in "town hall" events. But he also warned that controversial issues such as McCain's ties to the Keating Five savings and loan scandal are fair game, and he called McCain's proposal for a temporary halt in the federal gasoline tax a pander and a gimmick.
More aid finally reaching Myanmar's cyclone victimsYANGON, Myanmar (AP) _ Food and water reached cyclone victims in greater amounts Sunday after many roads were cleared, but there was no sign Myanmar's military rulers would allow foreign experts to handle the distribution, international aid groups said. The junta says it only wants international relief material and money but not the people to manage it. It wants to hand out all donated supplies on its own to an estimated 2 million people who are without food or shelter, facing the threat of diseases, after the May 3 Cyclone Nargis.
Sudan cuts ties with Chad after attack on KhartoumKHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) _ Sudan severed relations with Chad on Sunday, accusing it of supporting fighters who assaulted the capital the night before and warned that a top Darfur rebel leader was hiding somewhere in the city. Khartoum was still under curfew and reeling from the surprise assault late Saturday by Darfur rebels operating hundreds of miles from their bases in the far west of the country.
Jenna Bush's wedding is low-key affair at ranchCRAWFORD, Texas (AP) _ Jenna Bush couldn't see herself getting married at the White House surrounded by antique furniture and oil portraits of presidents. She and Henry Hager said "I do" Saturday at President Bush's ranch in Crawford where the corn is thigh-high, roads are named Cattle Drive and the Texas flag is painted on the rooftops of barns. The president and the bride picked "You Are So Beautiful" for their father-daughter dance, according to band leader Tyrone Smith of Nashville, Tenn. Smith and his 10-piece party band, The Tyrone Smith Revue, was asked to do "Lovin' in My Baby's Eyes" by Taj Mahal for the newlyweds' first dance. Smith, who promised the couple a "get down" party, talked to The Associated Press earlier in the week on condition that the information not be released before the wedding.

News Corp. ends bid to buy Long Island newspaper NewsdayNEW YORK (AP) _ News Corp., the media conglomerate controlled by Rupert Murdoch, has withdrawn its bid to purchase the Long Island paper Newsday, a News Corp. spokeswoman said Saturday. The decision to revoke the offer came just days after Murdoch confidently predicted he would clinch a deal to buy the newspaper within a week.
Former 'Idol' winner Carrie Underwood joins Grand Ole OpryNASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Carrie Underwood is the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. The singer joined the cast of the long-running country music show Saturday. Garth Brooks handled her formal induction and Vince Gill sang a duet with her. "This really seems like a great family to be part of," Underwood said, as she fought back tears. "I promise I'll do everything I possibly can to not make you regret it."
James, Cavs shoot down Celtics to trim series deficit to 2-1CLEVELAND (AP) _ The shots didn't drop again for LeBron James, and it hardly mattered. Maddux gets 350th career win as Padres beat Rockies 3-2SAN DIEGO (AP) _ Greg Maddux reached another milestone in his long, brilliant career. It might have meant more to a catcher making his big league debut than it did to the pitcher with Hall of Fame credentials. Maddux became the ninth pitcher in big league history to win 350 games, reaching the plateau in his fifth try and leading the San Diego Padres to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.
