(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Car bombs targeting Baghdad government kill 74BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) _ Two powerful car bombs exploded in downtown Baghdad Sunday, killing at least 74 people in an apparent attempt to target the fragile city's government offices, Iraqi authorities said. While violence has dropped dramatically in the country since the height of the sectarian tensions, such bombings like Sunday's demonstrate the precarious nature of the security gains and the insurgency's abilities to still pull off devastating attacks in the heart of what is supposed to be one of Baghdad's most secure areas.

UN nuclear inspectors in Iran to visit siteTEHRAN, Iran (AP) _ A team of U.N. inspectors prepared Sunday for their first look inside a formerly secret _ though still unfinished _ uranium enrichment facility that has raised Western suspicions about the extent of Iran's nuclear program. The inspection tour will provide the world's first independent details of the heavily protected site, carved into a mountainside near the holy city of Qom south of Tehran. It also coincides with the countdown to Iran's expected decision on whether to accept a U.N.-brokered plan to process its nuclear fuel abroad.

The video, posted by the San Jose Mercury News on its Web site late Saturday, shows one officer hitting 20-year-old Vietnamese student Phuong Ho with a metal baton more than 10 times, including once on the head. Parishioners and residents said his arrest represents a second blow to the community.

Israeli police storm Jerusalem holy siteJERUSALEM (AP) _ Israeli forces stormed the most sensitive holy shrine in Jerusalem on Sunday, firing water cannons and stun grenades to disperse a crowd of hundreds of Palestinian protesters that had pelted forces with stones. Although there were no serious injuries, it was one of the most intense incidents of violence in recent unrest around the hilltop compound known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Nobel Sanctuary. In the past, clashes at the site have erupted into deadly violence.

Nuclear energy becomes pivotal in climate debateWASHINGTON (AP) _ Once vilified by environmentalists and its future dim, nuclear energy has become a pivotal bargaining chip as Senate Democrats seek Republican votes to pass climate legislation. The nuclear industry's long-standing campaign to rebrand itself as green is gaining acceptance amid the push to curtail greenhouse gases. Nuclear power still faces daunting challenges, including what to do with radioactive reactor waste. Reactors also remain a tempting target for terrorists.

Earnings reports to give picture of job marketNEW YORK (AP) _ Wall Street may be roaring again and manufacturers see a bright future selling their wares in Asia. But for many Americans, it's still a downturn until the jobs come back. This week, earnings from several companies with deep ties to corporate payrolls, consumer demand and the labor market will show whether employers are hiring, firing or holding off on filling vacancies.

The declaration, signed Friday night and announced Saturday, comes with the disease more prevalent than ever in the country and production delays undercutting the government's initial, optimistic estimates that as many as 120 million doses of the vaccine could be available by mid-October.
