(AP Online Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Napster rolls out all-MP3 download storeLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Napster Inc. begins selling MP3s Tuesday, a move the online music service hopes will lure iPod users and turn around Napster's sliding fortunes. The company is the latest to make the switch to the unrestricted file format, which makes it music tracks compatible with virtually any music player or other device.



Microsoft-Yahoo talks driven by specter of Icahn, GoogleSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Just two weeks after breaking off merger talks, Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc. have been pulled back to the bargaining table by their fears about what might happen if they don't work out a deal. For now, Microsoft and Yahoo are still dancing around the edges as they explore possible business arrangements without melding the two companies.

Google makes health service publicly availableNEW YORK (AP) _ Google's online filing cabinet for medical records opened to the public Monday, giving users instant electronic access to their health histories and worrying a privacy advocate. Called Google Health, the service lets users link information from a handful of pharmacies and care providers, including Quest Diagnostics labs. Google plans to add more.



38 charged in international phishing schemeWASHINGTON (AP) _ Federal authorities have charged 38 people with stealing names, Social Security numbers, credit card data and other personal information from unsuspecting Internet users, the Justice Department said Monday. Indictments unsealed in Los Angeles and New Haven, Conn., say a global crime ring sought to rip off thousands of consumers and hundreds of financial institutions.

Comcast invests in P2P video-delivery startupNEW YORK (AP) _ Comcast Corp., which is under federal investigation for blocking some file-sharing traffic, is investing in a startup that delivers high-definition video using file-sharing techniques. Seattle-based GridNetworks on Monday said that Comcast would make an unspecified investment in the company and collaborate on developing so-called peer-to-peer file-sharing techniques that are "friendly" to Internet service providers.

Dell CFO Carty resigns, GE veteran to replace himDALLAS (AP) _ Donald J. Carty, who became Dell Inc.'s chief financial officer less than 18 months ago when the computer maker's accounting was under scrutiny, is stepping down and will be replaced by a longtime General Electric Co. executive. Brian T. Gladden, chief executive of SABIC Innovative Plastics, formerly called GE Plastics, will join Dell on Tuesday and succeed Carty as CFO on June 13.

8 ex-AOL Time Warner executives chargedWASHINGTON (AP) _ Federal regulators on Monday said eight former Time Warner Inc. executives fraudulently inflated the company's online advertising revenues by more than $1 billion between 2000 and 2002. Four of the executives have agreed to settle the civil charges brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission by paying a total of roughly $8 million in fines and returning allegedly ill-gotten gains. They are David Colburn, Eric Keller, Jay Rappaport and James MacGuidwin. MacGuidwin was controller of the media company; the other three were in its business affairs unit.

Computer helps jailers understand dogsJERUSALEM (AP) _ Israeli jails are using a custom-built computer program to interpret the barks of guard dogs and distinguish warnings of a breakout from everyday woofs, a prisons official said Monday. Noam Tavor, head of the Israel Prisons Service canine unit, said the program is designed to overcome mistakes in which guards have either not heard dogs sounding an alarm or failed to speedily identify its significance.

News Corp.'s Fox launching LatAm online ad networkNEW YORK (AP) _ News Corp. is pooling some of its Web sites, including the newly acquired Wall Street Journal properties, to better sell financial ads targeting Latin America. It is the latest traditional media company to launch an ad network for helping Web sites sell higher-priced ads targeted to specific audiences, such as parents or travel enthusiasts, keeping brand-name advertisers from fleeing to larger Internet companies like Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc.
