(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Car bomb kills 91 in Pakistani city of PeshawarPESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) _ A car bomb tore through a busy market in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, killing 91 people as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the country and pledged American support for its campaign against Islamist militants. More than 200 people were wounded in the blast in the main northwestern city of Peshawar, the deadliest in a surge of attacks this month. The government blamed militants seeking to avenge an army offensive launched this month against al-Qaida and Taliban in their stronghold close to the Afghan border.
Gunmen storm UN guest house in Kabul, 12 deadKABUL (AP) _ Taliban militants wearing suicide vests and police uniforms stormed a guest house used by U.N. staff in the heart of the Afghan capital early Wednesday, killing 12 people _ including six U.N. staff. It was the biggest in a series of attacks intended to undermine next month's presidential runoff election. A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the early morning assaults, which also included rocket attacks at the presidential palace and the city's main luxury hotel.
Nazi hit man charged with 3 murders goes on trialAACHEN, Germany (AP) _ An 88-year-old former member of the Waffen SS went on trial Wednesday on three counts of murder for the wartime killings of three civilians in the Netherlands. Heinrich Boere admitted to the three killings to Dutch authorities when he was in captivity after the war but has managed to avoid prosecution for decades _ first escaping from the Netherlands before he could be brought to trial, then successfully eluding the courts in Germany.

US man convicted of scuba death of wife in BVITORTOLA, British Virgin Islands (AP) _ A U.S. man faces life in a sweltering Caribbean prison after a jury convicted him of drowning his wife during a scuba-diving trip a decade ago in what prosecutors called a near perfect murder. When dive shop owner David Swain was led out of a British Virgin Islands court and into an armored car Tuesday evening _ his sallow face lit by camera flashes _ it closed a chapter in a mystery that began in March 1999 when his wife's body was found floating in the turquoise waters off the British Virgin Islands.
China struggles to identify rescued kidnap victimsBEIJING (AP) _ Police in China have created a Web site with photos of 60 rescued kidnap victims, mostly boys and many of them infants, in a bid to track down their families. The Ministry of Public Security's "Babies Looking for Home" Web site is part of a nationwide crackdown on widespread trafficking of women and children. State media have reported hundreds of rescues and arrests since the campaign began in April, but the new site shows that at least 60 children have yet to be reunited with their families.

Yemen seizes boat off coast, arrests 5 IraniansSAN'A, Yemen (AP) _ Yemeni coast guards have seized a boat they say illegally entered the country's territorial waters and arrested five Iranians on board, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday. Local media have reported the boat captured on Monday was Iranian and suspected of smuggling arms to Shiite rebels battling government troops in Yemen's northern Saada province.
