(AP Online Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jasmine Murray, Jorge Nunez dismissed from `Idol'LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A nice guy _ and a nice girl _ finished last on "American Idol." Jorge Nunez, the affable 20-year-old college student from Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Jasmine Murray, the melodious 16-year-old high school student from Starkville, Miss., were the first two finalists eliminated Wednesday from the popular Fox singing competition.


Jack White forms yet another new band, new CDNASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ No one can accuse Jack White of being lazy. The rocker is already a member of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, and now White says he's formed a third band, The Dead Weather.

Chris Brown removes name from Kids Choice AwardsNEW YORK (AP) _ There won't be any awkward Chris Brown moment at the Kids' Choice Awards _ the embattled pop star has withdrawn his name from the ballot. Brown had been nominated for favorite male singer and favorite song for "Kiss Kiss" at the March 28 awards show on Nickelodeon. The nominations came shortly before his arrest for allegedly attacking girlfriend and fellow pop star Rihanna. A petition had been circulated to take his name off the ballot, but Nickelodeon said on Tuesday he would remain on it. But with the backlash against him still strong, on Wednesday, Brown decided to take his name out of consideration.


Judge orders rapper 'C-Murder' to remain jailedGRETNA, La. (AP) _ A judge decided Wednesday that Corey Miller _ who gained fame as rapper C-Murder _ will remain in jail until his second-degree murder trial because he broke the rules of his house arrest. State District Judge Hans Liljeberg said he was puzzled by reports that Corey Miller, who has been on house arrest for three years, had left his grandmother's house for a few minutes at a time on several occasions. But he said he did not have that problem with hundreds of others he oversees.

Release date scheduled for Ted Kennedy's memoirNEW YORK (AP) _ The editor of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's memoir says the book will come out this fall. Jonathan Karp of the Twelve imprint at the Hachette Book Group USA, announced the release Wednesday during the annual meeting of the Association of American Publishers. Twelve spokesman Cary Goldstein said the book, titled "True Compass," would be listed in the publisher's fall catalog, out next month.

Ex-football star, actor Bosworth charged with DUILOS ANGELES (AP) _ Football player-turned-actor Brian Bosworth has been charged with drunken driving. City attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan says Bosworth was charged Wednesday with two misdemeanor counts in Los Angeles Superior Court.

AP countersues artist over famous Obama imageNEW YORK (AP) _ The Associated Press countersued an artist Wednesday over his famous image of Barack Obama, saying the uncredited, uncompensated use of an AP photo violated copyright laws and signaled a threat to journalism. The artist, Shepard Fairey, sued the not-for-profit news cooperative last month over his artwork, titled "Obama Hope" and "Obama Progress," arguing that he didn't violate copyright law because he dramatically changed the image.

Sesame Workshop announces layoffsNEW YORK (AP) _ Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit producer of "Sesame Street" and other kids' programs, says it's cutting 20 percent of its work force because of the recession. The company says it's eliminating 67 of 355 staff positions.

Gandolfini's vocal rest cancels B'way matineeNEW YORK (AP) _ Under doctors' order, James Gandolfini is giving his vocal cords a rest _ so the Wednesday matinee performance of "God of Carnage" on Broadway was canceled. Susanne Tighe, a spokeswoman for the production, says the former star of "The Sopranos" will return for the Wednesday evening performance of Yasmina Reza's comedy, which is now in previews. An official opening is set for March 22 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Publicist: Mandy Moore weds Ryan Adams in GeorgiaNEW YORK (AP) _ Mandy Moore is a married woman. Publicist Jillian Fowkes confirms the actress-singer and her fiance, rock musician Ryan Adams, quietly tied the knot Tuesday in Savannah, Ga. No further details were provided.
