Angel Investment to increase spending in Qatar's information technology sector [Qatar Tribune]

(Qatar Tribune Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)   SANTHOSH CHANDRAN DOHA THE Angel Investment Group will increase investment in the information technology sector and booming knowledge-based economy of Qatar, the co-founder of Angel Investment Network and Managing Director at Startup Labs Tugce Ergul has said.

Speaking at a workshop organised jointly by Digital Incubation Center (DIC) and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology on Tuesday, Ergul said that the decision to increase investment follows Angel investors' prediction that the knowledge-based economy of Qatar will offer plenty of opportunities for IT entrepreneurs in future.

The workshop was organised as part of efforts to build the Angel Investment ecosystem in Qatar's ICT sector and in pursuit of the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 for building a knowledge-based economy.

Speaking on the occasion, Manager of DIC Ahmed Laiali said,"The financial support offered by Angel's investors will help the incubators with ictQatar to perform well in their projects." "At present, DIC has three individual and four corporate investors from the Angel Network. DIC believes in the necessity to back the ecosystem of ICT entrepreneurs and open new horizons for investors interested in ICT market and willing to support startup companies specialized in that field," Laiali added.

The workshop featured lectures on Angel Investment concepts, capital, pre-money valuation and best practices in the investment sector, by the Angel Investment experts from the Silicon Valley in the USA.

Angel Investment generally aims to build a bridge between business community and promising startup entrepreneurs to back them, fund their businesses and help them develop their projects with the aim of building a robust entrepreneurship ecosystem in Qatar.

Angel Investment is still a novelty in Qatar and the Arab world and a lot of work is still needed to promote the concept among Qatari investors and business community. The workshop was attended by as many as 20 incubators with ictQatar and delegates from different business groups in Qatar.
