Ameritas CEO Arth to retire

(Omaha World-Herald (NE) (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jul. 28--Larry Arth is to retire Thursday after 40 years with Ameritas Insurance Corp. of Lincoln, a career that also includes a wide range of civic involvement in the state.

Arth turned 65 this month, the company's mandatory executive retirement age. His duties as chairman will be taken over by JoAnn Martin at Ameritas Life and John Jacobs at Unifi Cos., its holding company.

Martin said Arth has had an important impact on the company, the individuals in it and the Lincoln community. Ken VanCleave, president of Ameritas Group, said Arth's legacy will include the adage "Do things right the first time" and the ethical standard "Do the right thing."

Tonn Ostergard, chief executive officer of Crete Carrier Corp. in Lincoln and a director of Unifi, said Arth "has been not only a great CEO but also a tremendous community leader and somebody that we're all very proud of."

A Lincoln native, Arth joined Ameritas as a mortgage loan assistant in 1968. He became president and chief operating officer in 1988 and chairman and CEO in 1995. He was named chairman of the holding company when it was formed in 2006.

His list of civic and industry involvement includes the American Council of Life Insurers, Nebraska Wesleyan University, the University of Nebraska Foundation, the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, the Nebraska Council on Economic Education, Catholic Social Services, St. Elizabeth Community Health Center, FirsTier Financial Inc. and the Homestead Girl Scout Council.
