American Geriatrics Society Plans 2015 Succession of Chief Executive Officer

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, Oct. 22 -- The American Geriatrics Society issued the following news release: The American Geriatrics Society (http://www.americangeriatrics.org/) (AGS), a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the health, independence and quality of life of all older people, today announced the appointment of Nancy Lundebjerg, its current Chief Operating Officer, to the position of Chief Executive Officer, effective April 2015. Current AGS CEO Jennie Chin Hansen will step down and return to San Francisco after five years of successfully leading the organization. She will continue as a Senior Strategic Advisor to the AGS, working closely with Lundebjerg on advancing the AGS mission and goals.

"Jennie has been a wonderful leader for AGS, and we are pleased to announce a smooth succession next year to Nancy as our new CEO," said Cathy Alessi, MD, AGSF, AGS Board Chair. "Nancy has a long history with AGS and is a tireless advocate for geriatrics professionals. During the past year, the Board has discussed the CEO role at length and we were unanimous in our selection of Nancy to lead us." As COO, Lundebjerg oversees AGS public policy, communications, professional and public education programs, membership, and grant-funded projects. She is the lead staff member for the Geriatrics-for-Specialists Initiative, a multi-specialty effort that is funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies. Lundebjerg represents AGS in a variety of venues, most notably serving as the founding Co-Convener of the Eldercare Workforce Alliance which she continues to lead. She earned a BA in English Literature from Connecticut College and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Hartford where she was a Woodruff Scholar. She was also a fellow in the Office of Legislative Research of the Connecticut State Legislature.

"Nancy joined the AGS staff in 1998 and became COO in 2008," Alessi noted. "She is a strategic thinker who has refined and enhanced our programs and products while forging strong partnerships with our Board, Committees, and other organizations. We are truly fortunate to have her step into the role of CEO." *A photo of Nancy Lundebjerg is available on request.
