SHORETEL TO LAUNCH IN UAE: ShoreTel, Inc, a US-based provider of Pure IP Unified Communications solutions, said it plans to launch its range of UC solutions in the UAE. ShoreTel is one of the only IP telephony manufacturers in the industry to deliver 100 percent of its solutions through the expertise and experience of value-add resellers and solutions providers, the company said in a statement. Since channel distribution is the cornerstone of ShoreTel's success, the company has developed an innovative, superior channel partner program and will be running a series of educational seminars, vendor showcases and regional exhibitions in the GCC to recruit a lean forward thinking channel of VAR's, the statement added.



ZAIN CALLS FOR TELCO UNION: Khalid Al-Hajri, CEO of Zain -- Kuwait branch has called for the formation of a telecommunication union. He said that recent developments in the local market called for the establishment of such a union in order to organise telecom and Information Technology services. He added that with three telecom companies in the country, the establishment of a union would be a good step.

NAWRAS OFFERS GULF CUP MOBILE COVERAGE: Nawras, member of Qtel Group, official telecommunications partner of the 19th Arabian Gulf Cup is providing its customers with live mobile TV coverage of games from Al Jazeera during the Gulf Cup. Nawras customers and Omani football supporters can keep up-to-date with the Arabian Gulf Cup through their mobile phone.



QTEL TO HOLD TENDER OFFER FOR INDOSAT SHARES: Qatar Telecom (Qtel) will soon hold a tender offer for its shares in PT Indosat, Indonesia's telecom firm, Reuters has reported. Qtel aims to lift its stake to a maximum 65 percent according to Indonesia's capital market regulator. Indosat shares closed up 5.41 percent on Thursday at 5,850 rupiah, against a 1.32 percent drop in the main stock index.
