(AME Info (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 22--LINUX DID NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF POOR VISTA UPTAKE: With the full release of Microsoft Windows 7 today, it begs the question of why the industry has not seen a big rise in Linux-based enterprise desktop implementations, given that over the past couple of years it has had an unpopular and weak operating system as competition.
ETISALAT, CHINA INK IP VPN DEAL: Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) and China Telecom have signed a partnership agreement to enhance IP VPN connectivity for customers from the UAE and China. Under the agreement, China Telecom will be setting up their node in UAE, which will enable customers to connect to China through Etisalat's backbone network.
CLOSE TIES BETWEEN BUSINESS AND IT: ACCIDENT OR DESIGN? Middle East IT heads work far closer with their organisation's business units than their counterparts in the US and Europe -- but often it is through a culture of mistrust rather than respect. Research earlier this year by analysts Forrester, and presented during Gitex, found that of the IT heads they spoke with in the region, all said they were closely aligned with internal business units. But to an extent, this is more by accident than design.
