(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Alltel Wireless, a US wireless network operator, has announced plans to
expand its wireless broadband network in Charlotte in North Carolina
and surrounding communities, with the launch of EVDO (evolution data
optimised) Revision A technology.
Revision A will improve the performance of existing Alltel broadband
services such as remote access to corporate intranets, productivity
enhancing applications and consumer products like Alltel TV.
Upload speeds on Revision A will average between 500 and 800Kbps, with
burst up to 1.8Mbps, compared to the company's existing broadband
network average upload speeds of 50 to 70Kbps, with bursts up to
144Kbps. Download speeds will also show an improvement from an average
of between 400 and 700Kbps to an average of 600Kbps to 1.4Mbps.
To access the enhanced broadband network, customers will require
Revision A capable devices, such as the Kyocera KPC680, the Huawei
EC228 USB and the UTStarcom UM 150. Huawei EC360 cards can be made
compatible by downloading free software from
http://software.alltel.com/.
Both EVDO and Revision A versions of Alltel's Wireless Internet service
are available on contracts costing USD59.99 per month.
