Allianz Life Chief Administrative Officer Cathy Mahone Featured on Working Motherhood Podcast

Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America's (Allianz Life®) Chief Administrative Officer, Cathy Mahone, was recently featured on the Working Motherhood podcast, a daily podcast featuring interviews with successful and inspiring working moms. On the podcast, Mahone shares her insights on managing family health challenges and creating success in both business and her personal life. Mahone is often cited by Allianz Life employees for her effective guidance and the day-to-day impact she makes by sharing her family experiences openly. As a result of her leadership, the Operations division has seen employee engagement increase by more than 30% since 2008.

Mahone was invited to be interviewed on the podcast because of her recent recognition as one of Working Mother magazine's 2014 Working Mothers of the Year. Mahone was selected for the list because of her approachable demeanor, openness and strong leadership.

"Allianz Life supports employees to find balance in their personal and professional lives," said Mahone. "I help this intiative by being open with others about my experiences at home and employees definitely relate. I believe that family and work are interconnected and when we talk more about our lives outside of work, we make better relationships at work."

Balancing Priorities

Mahone influences a large part of the Allianz Life employee base, more than 50% of the approximate 1,700 Allianz Life employees report to her from the Operations, IT, Sourcing & Re-engineering and Suitability divisions. Mahone, a mother of 9-year old twins, was recognized on the Working Mothers of the Year list because she enhanced corporate goals at work while also managing a rich and busy family life.

"The best career advice I received was to be in control of your own destiny and understand what you really want in life," adds Mahone. "Set your 'non-negotiables' with your leader and be clear from the beginning on what is most important to you when it comes to your family. Ten years from now, you may not remember a meeting that you had, but you will remember your child's play or a family event."

About the 2014 Working Mothers of the Year list

To be recognized on the Working Mothers of the Year list, Working Mother magazine first identified the Working Mother 100 Best Companies. These companies, including Allianz Life, implement progressive policies allowing working moms to be the best parent and employee they can be. Companies on the list were weighted on their use of flexible work arrangements, advancement programs, and the representation and hiring of females in the workplace. To showcase company values even further, the 100 Best Companies then nominated a top female leader who successfully balanced their professional and personal lives to be added to the Working Mothers of the Year list.
