BEIJING, Jan 08, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --
Alcatel Shanghai Bell Co., Ltd., the Chinese flagship company under Alcatel-Lucent, announced that it was set to be renamed as Shanghai Bell from January 8.
The original name is too long to remember, said Yuan Xin, chairman of the company. Shanghai Bell is a Sino-French 50-50 joint venture funded by the national State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) and Alcatel-Lucent, a global communications solutions provider. It is the unique joint venture under the SASAC, as well as the first foreign-invested joint venture in the Chinese telecommunications industry.
With 24-year-long development, the company's products span telecom equipment, fixed network, mobile network, broadband access, intelligent optical network, multimedia solution, and network application. By now, it has had more than 15,000 employees, over 6,000 of which are for R&D. The company's foreign shareholder Alcatel-Lucent now has operations in more than 130 countries. It achieved audited revenues of EUR 17.8 billion in 2007.
