Alcatel-Lucent: Alcatel-Lucent's FP2 Silicon wins IEC InfoVision award at the Broadband World Forum Europe

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
RDATE:01102008

Broadband World Forum, Brussels -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and
NYSE: ALU) today announced that its FP2 silicon technology, the
industry's first 100 Gb/s IP routing network processor and traffic
manager, has won an IEC InfoVision Award in the Metro Network
Technologies and Services category. Officially unveiled in March of
this year, the FP2 silicon represents a generational leap in silicon
technology and enables a significant increase in routing performance.

The International Engineering Consortium's (IEC) InfoVision Awards
honour innovations that help advance the information and communications
technologies (ICT) industry.

Alcatel-Lucent's FP2 silicon was selected by a panel of industry
experts based on criteria spanning overall quality of innovation and
contribution to technology advancement, originality and vision, and
potential contribution towards positive industry growth.

"We were pleased to honor Alcatel-Lucent this afternoon for its FP2
silicon technology as a winner of the InfoVision Awards at the
Broadband World Forum Europe 2008," commented IEC Executive Vice
President Roger Plummer. "This year, we themed the event 'Delivering
the Promise,' and the InfoVision Winners certainly play a significant
role in delivering the broadband promise."

"We are delighted the IEC has recognized the innovation and
contribution that Alcatel-Lucent's FP2 silicon makes to the evolution
of IP routing," said Basil Alwan, President of Alcatel-Lucent's IP
activities. "Alcatel-Lucent continues to execute on our comprehensive
IP/MPLS service routing vision which enables our customers to deliver
advanced and high performance broadband services to residential,
business and mobile users."

The InfoVision Award program recognizes technologies, applications,
products, advances, and services judged to be the most unique and
beneficial to the telecommunications industry. InfoVision Awards also
honour corporations for their innovative contributions and developments
that have proven important to society.

FP2 silicon technology is highly innovative and represents a
significant technology breakthrough, by delivering 100 Gb/s of high
performance routing, IP/MPLS, traffic management and high touch
services in a single packet processing complex, which and can sustain
line rate forwarding with all services enabled. The FP2 silicon is
fully programmable, consumes only 0.6 watts of power per gigabit and
delivers 64,000 service queues with massive service depth and scale.

Consequently, the FP2 silicon enables significant improvements in user
quality of experience (QoE) and support for emerging applications in
edge, business, residential and mobile network environments. The new
FP2 silicon enables substantial increases in routing performance,
Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet port densities while increasing
throughput and service scale. FP2 silicon technology enables service
providers to meet the rapidly evolving needs of next generation,
multiservice networks and provides a future-ready foundation for
building next generation IP networks.
