RDATE:28032008
Paris -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced
its participation in the renovation of the emergency services'
technical platform at the Gabriel Toure hospital in Bamako (Mali) by
providing a complete and integrated business communications solution
for all emergency services staff.
The President of the Republic of Mali, Amadou Toumani Toure, attended
the inauguration of this renovation project, developed by the Fondation
Thiam in collaboration with the Mali Government Health Department.
The project's objective is to allow rapid patient diagnosis in order to
identify the most appropriate patient treatment. To achieve this,
Alcatel-Lucent is providing a technical solution based on the
Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Office platform, combining an IP voice server,
electronic messaging server, internal communications controller and an
emergency contact center.
This contribution is an integral part of the Fondation Thiam program,
whose overall objective is to contribute to the improvement of
emergency care in Mali.
Moctar Thiam, President of the Fondation Thiam, made the following
comments: "In a country where life expectancy is 41 years and infant
mortality reaches the terrible rate of 120 0/00 (7 0/00 in Europe and
in the US; 26 0/00 in Latin America and the Caribbean Islands; 49 0/00
in Asia), improving health care for patients has become particularly
important".
For Thierry Albrand, Director of Alcatel-Lucent's "Digital Bridge"
initiative: "It is vital for a hospital to rapidly and efficiently
admit patients arriving at the emergency services.
The communications solution provided by Alcatel-Lucent for staff at the
Gabriel Toure hospital will speed up patient diagnostic procedures, an
essential phase prior to surgical intervention and treatment. This
action fits in perfectly with Alcatel-Lucent's commitment to reduce the
digital divide, while improving the quality of care for all patients
admitted to emergency services"
About Fondation Thiam
The ambition of the Fondation Thiam is first to restore the technical
platforms required at the Gabriel Toure hospital in Bamako, but also to
set up a number of training modules for emergency physicians and
clinical and health teams, and to equip the city of Bamako with a
mobile pick-up unit. Following an in-depth audit, the Fondation
submitted a project to the Malian Ministry of Health and on September
21, 2006 the parties signed a master agreement to implement the project.
