Al Awadhi beats Hassan to capture Zain bowling title [Gulf Daily News (Bahrain)]

(Gulf Daily News (Bahrain) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AHMED Al Awadhi lifted the overall trophy in the Zain Bowling Tournament, which concluded recently at the Bapco Club in Awali.

The promising youngster clinched the title after defeating Nasser Hassan 232 to 201 in the final tie.

Al Awadhi took full advantage of Hassan's fault in second frame to mark four strikes in a row to lead with a 40-pin difference.

Hassan narrowed the margin to 20 pins when Al Awadhi opened in ninth frame, but was unable to close the gap for a rematch as Al Awadhi scored three consecutive stakes in the last frame to declare himself the youngest ever to clinch the title.

Earlier, the finalists played double-match knock-out. In round one, Mohammed Al Jahromi defeated Abbas Haji 406-365, Mustaf Qaed beat Ali Al Mas 489-432 and Mohammed Falah edged out Masoud Saberi 422-405.

In round two, Arab women's champion Nadia Al Awadhi, Mohammed Falah and Mustafa Qaed managed to overcome Al Jahromi (371-346), Mohammed Janahi (399-398) and Hussain Al Shehabi (379-375), respectively.

The third round, which comprised a total of three matches, featured some major upsets with Nadia beaten by Ahmed Al Goaud 592-620, Qaed went down to Ahmed Al Noaimi 630-633 and Mohammed Falah lost to his son Yousif 462-666.

The winners moved to play one playoff match where Al Noaimi managed to proceed to stepladder by scoring a 258 while Falah finished with 244 and Al Gaoud 200.

Al Noaimi continued his fine performance and eliminated Mohammed Sultan in the first match of the stepladder 241-158 to move up to meet the second seed Nasser Hassan, who took the game 201-232 due to his opponent's missing single pin in two frames.

Excellent Hassan could not cope with the top seed's excellent performance especially when he missed a single pin in second frame.

Al Awadhi is considered to be one of the first graduate players from the newly-established Bowling Academy, which is run under the supervision of the Awali Bowling Club.

He dedicated his victory to the committee members of the club and his coaches Ari Mursal and Abdullatif Rashid.

The management of Awali Bowling Club thanked Bahrain's telecommunications company Zain for sponsoring the event, hoping that such support would continue in the future.

Meanwhile, the prize-presentation ceremony is set to take place on February 18 at 8pm at the same venue. It will be held under the patronage of Cooperate Communications Manager of Zain Bahrain Sameya Hussain.
