Aid rushed to Iran quake victims

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Iran rushed aid to the earthquake-stricken western province of Lorestan, where more than 70 people were killed in Friday temblors, a report said.

A series of quakes registering up to 6.0 struck the mainly rural area -- affecting 1,500 homes and injuring some 1,200 people.

Since most of the area affected is villages with animal stables, we are going to bury the animals in way to halt the spread of disease, Qodratollah Sams Khoramabadi of Medical University told the BBC.

Most parks in the provincial capital of Khoramabad and the city of Boroujerd were filled with people who escaped the quakes.

While the United States offered aid for the quake victims, the government of Iran said it had not yet asked for any help.
