Advantech to Feature 4K Video and H.265 Advanced Video Capabilities at NAB Show 2013

TAIPEI, Taiwan, March 28, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW) today provided a preview of the advanced video solutions that will be showcased at the upcoming NAB Show to be held April 8 - 11 in Las Vegas. The company will feature products that support new video standards, including JPEG2000 codec, 4K/2K resolution, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and AVC-Intra/Ultra. The company also plans to introduce a range of new platforms at NAB that can support high-performance video applications from core servers to edge nodes, allowing OEM customers to choose the most cost-effective platform for their particular applications.

The new products are targeted at a wide range of video applications, including transcoding, transrating, broadcasting, content creation, cinema projection, video conferencing and other usage models that require raw processing power for high-performance video. The latest H.265-based video technology allows the development of video platforms that offer greater I/O density, which translates into a lower cost-per-video-channel. The platforms also require less power and space.

"As the worldwide market leader of industrial-grade computing solutions, Advantech has invested heavily in dedicated resources to develop the essential building blocks that enable the deployment of innovative and integrative video system infrastructure, including video acquisition, video encoding, video processing and video distribution," said David Lin, Senior Director Digital Signal Processor (DSP) Solutions, Advantech. "The fundamental technologies based on digital signal and media processors, x86 processors, networking processors and field-programmable gate-array devices, plus system-level integration, make Advantech products ideal for well-established codec processing such as MPEG-2, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC along with the new video standards we are demonstrating at this year's NAB Show." In addition to the H.265 and JPEG 2000 4K demonstrations, Advantech, along with their ecosystem partners einfochips and Ittiam, will be demonstrating the latest video streaming services and video wall applications. The PCIe-based advanced video platforms used in the HLS streaming demonstrations are based on the DSPC-8681 and DSPC-8682 PCI Express (PCIe) cards and can support up to eight TMS320C6678 multicore DSPs from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), each with 2GB of DDR3 1333/1600MHz 64-bit DDR3 memory, the PLX® ExpressLane(TM) PEX8748 PCIe Gen 3 switch, a Xilinx XC3S200AN Spartan-3 FPGA and an IDT CPS1616 Serial RapidIO Gen 2 switch to achieve levels of performance that far exceed the performance and density of commodity platforms.

The video wall demonstration is built on Advantech's DSPC-8662 cards based on the DaVinci(TM) TMS320DM8168 video processor from TI with supporting FPGA devices to perform video acquisition from 8-channel SDI-SD/HD/3G and ASI inputs. With the option of supporting 4-channel HDMI video outputs, the DSPC-8662 is highly versatile and able to address various video functions, including acquisition, encoding, decoding, transcoding, video wall, multi-viewer and surveillance. The video coprocessors, DSP and ARM®-based RISC processors built into the DM8168 video processor orchestrate to deliver multiple 1080p60 Full High-Definition (FHD) video streams with 4:2:0 pixel samples. The DSPC-8662's compliance to standard PCIe in a full-length form factor and the inclusion of Gigabit Ethernet support provide full interoperability with existing video carrier platforms employing PCIe expansion slots. Bundled with Linux- and Windows®-based sample software code, the DSPC-8662 facilitates the development, integration and deployment of highly-efficient, high-density video solutions.

"Additional in-booth demonstrations will include several new system-level platforms designed to accelerate video platform deployment that can utilize multiple media-processing engines to meet the broadest range of video process needs," concluded Lin. "The new platforms, blades and boards that we are showcasing at the show along with Advantech's customization capabilities allow our OEM customers to develop platforms with uniqueness built in and deliver them to the market quickly." Advantech will be demonstrating these products in booth SU13407 at the NAB Show, April 8-11, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV USA. For more information, please contact [email protected].
