Acme Packet Connected Universe Expands as Market for VoIP Interconnect and Peering Grows
CHICAGO --(Business Wire)-- Acme Packet(R) (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced the expansion of its Acme Packet Connected Universe(TM) program with the addition of four new Constellation members. Acme Packet Connected Universe, launched in November 2006, is a program designed to facilitate business relationships among Acme Packet-enabled service providers that extend service reach, drive down costs, improve service quality and ultimately leverage new IP interactive communication service opportunities beyond voice. Leading U.S. and European service provider customers and partners of Acme Packet -- Belgacom International Carrier Services (ICS), Momentum Telecom, PAETEC and Telcordia -- have joined the program, which now totals nearly 20 members.
"By becoming a member of the Acme Packet Connected Universe, we are able to market our wholesale services to a community of other Acme Packet-enabled networks and acquire new leads," explained Patrick Tata, vice president/general manager from PAETEC Wholesale Markets. "We anticipate the referrals through this program will be instrumental in developing future business opportunities."
Four Acme Packet-enabled service providers have recently joined Acme Packet Connected Universe as Constellation members, joining a community of industry leaders in VoIP such as Global Crossing, NeuStar, VeriSign and Stealth Communications. The new Constellation members offer various wholesale services, connecting to their service provider customers using direct IP interconnects. The new members include:
Belgacom International Carrier Services is a leading supplier of voice, data and value-added services to over 400 wireless, wireline and service providers through sales offices in Brussels, Bern, Dubai, Singapore and NY. Belgacom ICS aims to enable global interworking across all networks, technologies and services. As a result of this approach and the joint venture with Swisscom, Belgacom ICS is now the eighth largest wholesale-voice-service provider and world leader in data transit services.
Momentum Telecom Wholesale is a residential and business digital phone service provider based in Birmingham, Alabama. The wholesale division of Momentum Telecom offers private label solutions for independent cable operators and municipalities to provide the highest quality digital telephone service to their customers.
PAETEC is a facilities-based provider of voice and data network services to carrier and enterprise customers in 52 of the top 100 Metropolitan Service areas in the United States. PAETEC's comprehensive communications portfolio accommodates the needs of wholesale service providers, agents, resellers and enterprise customers.
Telcordia Technologies, Inc. is the leading global provider of telecommunications network software and services for IP, wireline, wireless, and cable. The Telcordia(R) Service Interconnection Registry is a secure, centrally-managed, carrier-grade registry that enables inter-carrier routing and rating for both TDM- and IP-enabled services. IP Service Interconnection allows carriers to interconnect via IP to deliver VoIP, IMS and other converged services, while enabling carriers to migrate seamlessly from PSTN to IP.
"As a CLEC joining Acme Packet Connected Universe, we can look forward to forming peering relationships with other service providers to provide even more value and services to our customers," said Rick Giardin, VP, engineering from DSCI, an existing Star member of Acme Packet Connected Universe. "The program helps us to expand our network reach and realize new opportunities while taking full advantage of the security and control capabilities of Acme Packet's Net-Net session border controllers."
"For VoIP interconnection to move beyond simple, opportunistic arrangements into the mainstream, several fundamental issues must be addressed," explained Seamus Hourihan, vice president of marketing and product management at Acme Packet. "These issues include the different protocols used, network security and call quality, as well as how carriers actually establish business relationships and economic models that drive revenue and lower cost. Acme Packet's SBCs are helping service providers address the technical issues and our Acme Packet Connected Universe helps alleviate the business challenges as our customers look to implement and grow VoIP peering and interconnect relationships."
