Acme Packet and Camiant Demonstrate IMS Policy Control at CTIA Wireless 2008 in Booth #3241

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Acme Packet(R) (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, and Camiant, Inc., the leading provider of real-time policy control and application assurance technology to service providers worldwide, today announced a joint VoIP solution that addresses the quality of experience and delivery control for VoIP and other IP interactive communications for wireless and mobile service providers. This joint solution will be demonstrated at CTIA Wireless 2008 at Acme Packet's booth #3241 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 1-3, 2008.

As mobile operators migrate to IMS and offer a multitude of SIP-based services--VoIP calls via dual-mode handsets and femtocells, SIP-based supplemental services like video sharing and VoIP to 4G handsets-- bandwidth and resource control is an integral part of next-generation network architectures. The demonstration at CTIA Wireless 2008 will adhere to release 7 of 3GPP IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), using the IMS DIAMETER Rx interface between an Acme Packet Net-Net(R) session boder controller (SBC), which acts as a P-CSCF (Proxy-Call Session Control Function), and the Camiant Policy Server, fulfilling the role of the PCRF (Policy Charging Rules Function) for resource reservation and admission control for VoIP and other interactive IP communication sessions. The external policy server queries complement the Net-Net SBC's local policies, which look at other element and network resource constraints, such as signaling loads on IMS core CSCF elements.

"As mobile broadband has matured, bandwidth demand has increased substantially, bringing network congestion and quality issues. Policy control is a key component in the wireless network for managing resource allocation, especially for emerging SIP-based applications where control of the subscriber experience is critical," said Randy Fuller, vice president of business development at Camiant. "We are pleased to work with leading partners like Acme Packet to enable wireless operators to effectively guarantee quality and control for next-generation services."

"Dynamic quality of service and policy enforcement are fundamental to success as mobile operators deploy SIP-based communications over WiFi-fixed broadband hybrid networks and 3G and 4G RANs," commented Seamus Hourihan, vice president of marketing and product management at Acme Packet. "Acme Packet has worked with Camiant over the years to make policy control a viable and deployed solution today."

To schedule a meeting or viewing of the demonstration at CTIA 2008, held in Las Vegas, NV, April 1-3, 2008, or for further inquiries, please contact Kevin Mitchell at +1 781.328.4436 or kmitchell@acmepacket.com, or Ilona Mohacsi for Camiant at +1 631.764.3729 or via e-mail at ilona@abelsongroup.com.
