Accountant aims to help business with financial advice [Pretoria News (South Africa)]

(Pretoria News (South Africa) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Thulane Lekala, aged 27, from Daveyton is a qualified accountant who majored in Internal Auditing from Vaal University of Technology.

He is doing his training at GAD Consulting Services Inc and describes the experience as an|interesting journey.

"My interest in studying accounting began with me loving money," he said with a chuckle.

"I realised that most entrepreneurs are interested in making money but lack knowledge |of how to manage their businesses financially - not keeping records.

"I then wanted to fill this gap by ensuring that business owners are alert of the implication of each transaction they are making in their businesses," he said.

He began his training on July 1 last year and will be trained at the GAD facilities for the next three years.

"Training is important because one needs to be shaped and sharpened for the corporate world and for you to add value in the industry you need mentors like Mrs Precious Makhosazane Mvulane.

"It is also important when one deals with money and compliance that they are qualified accountants, with proper training given to perform significantly," he said.

During his time at GAD, he has learnt a lot of necessary lessons that have helped him hone his skills such as proper bookkeeping using accounting systems and procedures, auditing processes, dealing with tax compliances and being a good team member.

He has gone through training for updates on tax, compliance, accounting software and has worked with different types of clients, giving him a lot of exposure; all which is offered by the company.

In studying accounting, Thulane points out that you can venture into a wide range of careers like banking, insurance, teller, cost accountant, bookkeeper, creditor's clerk and debtor's clerk.

Throughout his stay at GAD, he has learnt from his mentor, Mvulane, and his team to never give up.

"I have also learnt how to manage time, how to commit to my work, and never letting fear to stand in your way, which are key pointers to my succeeding in this industry." "Being in such a competitive environment, the real world of work, with a great team to work with is an awesome honour.

"I have learnt new things every day - GAD has turned out to be a really supportive place for my development as an upcoming accountant," he said.

His training days, or internship experience, has proven to have added value to his growth, while also eradicating the skills shortage downfall that clouds South Africa.

It has also given him a competitive advantage with the work|exposure and on-the-job training.
