43% of Heart Patients Discovered Their Condition Through Wellness Program, Found HealthMine SurveyDALLAS, Feb. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- 85.6 million Americans are living with some form of cardiovascular disease—and wellness programs have the potential to help them. A January HealthMine survey of 501 consumers with known heart disease and/or risk found that 38% of people are enrolled in a wellness program. 43% of those individuals say they discovered their heart condition/risk through their wellness program. Wellness programs can help consumers identify and manage their disease or risk by providing awareness, recommended health actions and meaningful incentives to manage health. HealthMine's survey found that 68% of respondents enrolled in wellness programs also have access to a disease management program. 86% of those with access participate in their disease management program. Direct and indirect costs of cardiovascular diseases and stroke total more than $320.1 billion in the U.S., according to the American Hert Association. That includes health expenditures and lost productivity. But 79% of respondents enrolled in wellness plans said their program helps them manage their healthcare costs. 42% say their wellness program helps them manage their healthcare costs a lot.
