3G phones for 25 Citizen Reporters

(Malay Mail Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)KUALA LUMPUR: Citizen Reporters have stamped their mark on the New Straits Times with their Multimedia Messaging (MMS) pictures.

Yesterday was payday for 25 of them as they received a 3G Nokia N70 phone each for winning the 'Your Say Mobile Interactive' programme which started from Dec 31 and lasted 12 weeks.

Fourteen of them collected their prizes at Balai Berita from NST editorial support service general manager Zainul Ariffin, Nokia's Multimedia Business Unit manager Stanley Gan and Celcom's corporate communication vice-president Norliza Kamaruddin.

The 25 winners were selected over a period of five weeks.

Five best snapshots were chosen each week.

The programme is to encourage readers to become Citizen Reporters by sharing their thoughts on certain issues and report happenings in their towns.

Student Nicholas Mark, 17, said: "I am glad to win my first 3G phone.

I sent three MMS and I am happy that one of them was selected." "I have been taking part in various contests since I was 15 years old," said Sunita Thomas, a 41-year-old director of a South Africa company.

"Reporters cannot be everywhere.

'Your Say' has provided the chance for people to tip off the Press on happenings in their towns." Dr N.

Thangarajah, 43, who sent five MMS, said: "The easy access encourages active participation from the public to provide feedback on significant issues.

"However, I am looking forward to an on-going programme rather than just 12 weeks." Nokia (M) Sdn Bhd is sponsoring 60 N70 cell phones to lucky contributors, each worth RM2,500 while Celcom (M) Berhad is sponsoring the 3G starter pack and top-up airtime worth RM60 to each winner.

Readers who have not registered as citizen reporters can do so and stand a chance to win a 3G phone.
