200 Gigabit HDR InfiniBand to Accelerate Eni Supercomputing Platform, to Become World's Most Powerful Industrial Supercomputer

SUPERCOMPUTING CONFERENCE - Mellanox (News - Alert)® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end smart interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced that 200 gigabit per second HDR (News - Alert) InfiniBand has been selected by Eni, a global energy company, to accelerate HPC5 - the world's most powerful industrial supercomputer. The HPC5 supercomputer will deliver three times higher performance compared to the existing 100 gigabit EDR InfiniBand HCP4 supercomputer platform. HPC5 will allow generating faster data analysis during Eni operations, and will further accelerate Eni research and development of non-fossil energy sources, as well as support exploration, development and monitoring of oil fields during all stages.

HPC5 will deliver 52-petaflop of computing performance utilizing both CPUs and GPUs, and 15 petabyte of storage, all connected in a full non-blocking 200 gigabit per second HDR InfiniBand topology to ensure efficient and direct connection among every compute server and storage system.

On Eni's press release Claudio Descalzi, CEO of the company, commented: "Our investment to strengthen our supercomputer infrastructure and to develop proprietary technologies are a crucial part of the digital transformation of Eni. Having great computing power and sophisticated algorithms at our disposal makes us leaders in the modern energy sector and projects us on to the future. Eni is forging that future through a range of alternative energy projects, and through a solid R&D investment plan. With HPC5, we are entering the world of Exascale computing in the energy sector, which will revolutionize company processes in the future."

"InfiniBand performance advantages have accelerated Eni supercomputing platforms over the years, and we are excited to see our HDR InfiniBand solutions empower the new supercomputing system, enabling Eni with the world-leading industrial supercomputing power," said Amir Prescher, senior vice president of end-user sales and business development at Mellanox Technologies. "Thanks to HDR InfiniBand's interconnect leadership, its smart acceleration engines for high performance, data intensive and deep learning applications, and being a standard technology ensuring bckward and future compatibility, Eni is equipped with the capabilities to gain further competitive advantage, and to build a supercomputing infrastructure that serves their current and future needs."
