2 art businesses in downtown Bloomington, Ind., to close
(Herald-Times (Bloomington, IN) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 3--Two downtown art businesses are preparing to say goodbye -- Prima Gallery and Tim Terry Jewelry and Fine Antiques will both close by the end of the year.
Prima Gallery's last day is Dec. 31. According to gallery manager Marcy Neiditz, a small selection of pieces will be marked down before closing. The gallery is at 109 E. Sixth St.
She said the gallery's owner, Linda Fratianni, is retired and had previously begun to think about closing. She said the owner finalized her decision after the economy began to sag this year.
Neiditz said 2008 sales are down from last year's.
The gallery will have a farewell show featuring work by local artists including Rudy Pozzatti, Bonnie Sklarski, Betsy Stirratt, Roger Pfingston, Neiditz and many others.
"The artists aren't going away. We're going to continue exhibiting in some way," she said.
The business was known simply as The Gallery since the 1960s. It was named Prima Gallery in 2004 when Fratianni bought it.
Neiditz said though the gallery is closing, Fratianni is interested in selling the business. Call Griffin Realty at 877-334-2686 for details.
Down the street at the Wicks Building, Tim Terry has announced his retirement and the closing of his shop at 116 W. Sixth St. Dec. 24 is its last day.
A "grand closing" reception will take place the evening of Dec. 19, says the jewelry maker's wife, Ladi Terry.
Tim Terry will continue to make jewelry, she said. His pieces will be available at Wandering Turtle Art Gallery, which will be moving into the Terrys' space in the new year.
Ladi's vintage clothing will continue to be sold, this time at the Green Bean coffee shop, 410 W. Fourth St.
Tim Terry had a shop in upstate New York for 24 years. The couple moved to Bloomington in 2003 and set up another shop.
Ladi Terry says they look forward to traveling together. She says she will continue to operate her consulting business, Success Work Consulting.
